How to Easily Brush Your Dog’s Teeth

This post is sponsored by Chewy.com.  Read our disclosure here.

Dental care is something we all think about as humans, but sometimes people forget about dental care for their pets.  Or even worse to have your dog’s teeth clean you have to have them sedated.  None of which is fun or easy on the pup!!

Now Ark Natural’s makes these chewable dog treats that are yummy for the pup and easy for you to feed them.  They are breath-less brushless-toothpaste and my dogs LOVE them!!  The outside is made with the fresh flavor of alfalfa, cinnamon, vanilla and clove.  The inside is made with Ark’s patented toothpaste for plaque, tartar and bacteria control.  On the outside are ridges to help abrasive action.

Breath-Less Brushless-Toothpaste treats are available in three sizes (small, medium and large).  We ordered ours in large since Sugar and Steel are large.  On the back of the packaging it recommended to freeze them if your dog is a gulper.  Since our dogs tended to gulp down their food we decided to freeze them.  It helped to slow the dogs down when they were eating the treats.

All of our dogs really enjoyed the treats and Momma loves that it helps take care of the dogs’ teeth!!

Choosing the Best Treats for Training Your Dog

Lately our Mom has been reading “Training the Best Dog Ever“.  We aren’t really sure why because we already say we are the best dogs EVER, but she says we need manners so we can go RVing next year (more on that later).  Anyway, we don’t mind because with training has meant lots of new tasty treats we have gotten to try out.

This month Chewy.com sent us these soft ‘n tasty baked bites from Caru in salmon recipe.    Did you know that caru in Welsh means “to love”??  They definitely shows lots of love to us pups in their treats.  They are packed full of healthy nutrition including salmon, blueberries and cranberries.  However, they do NOT include any of the unhealthy stuff such as wheat, gluten, corn, soy or animal by-products.

Caru Baked Bites-7

Us pups love them because they taste great and they are easy to chew.  We don’t care for crunchy treats.  Mom loves them because they can easily be broken in half making them the prefect size for training.

Nugget is the first pup she has been working with on the training series.  We have to be tethered to her for five weeks during the training so she is working with us one at a time and after Nugget peeing on her bed several times, yep, he was chosen to go through the course first.  So Nugget is the one you see in all the pictures, but all of us pups have enjoyed these yummy treats.

You can see he has done with also learning to not snatch.  That is Daddy’s favorite thing to teach us.  Tank is still working on it, but the rest of us have it mastered!!

What Do You Feed Your Dogs??

Finding a high quality dog food for our pups has been at the top of our list from the beginning.  But when Steel was diagnosed with a skin condition making sure our dog food did not have any added fillers became a big concern for us.

After much research we decided to feed our dogs Taste of the Wild.  Steel, Sugar and Tank eat the wetland formula and Nugget eats the high prairie puppy formula.  But today I just want to focus on the wetland formula.  We chose this formula because the number one ingredient in the food is duck!  The wetland formula has dried chicory root, no grain, roasted quail, duck & smoked turkey, antioxidants, omega fatty acid blend, blueberries & raspberry, tomato pomace & tomatoes and chelated minerals.

So when we got the email from Chewy asking about trying the can Taste of the Wild dog food that was an OF COURSE!!!  Now the can food as the same awesome ingredients as the dry food but it has fowl in gravy making it great for mixing in with our kibble food.

Now wet food is not something our dogs get everyday, so when they get it that is a real treat.  They all stand close by waiting while I prepare their food.

I mixed the wet food in with their kibble food to give their kibble a little something extra.

Steel made sure to savory it and enjoy every single bite!!!

Birthday Cupcakes for your Dog

Earlier this week Steel turned 3 years old and we had quiet the party!!  Dad always says the little humans and Mommy celebrate their birthdays for a week and we celebrated Steel’s birthday for a week too!!  Mom made some birthday cupcakes for Steel’s birthday and since she had never made them before she decided to give them a try before his birthday actually got here.

Making sure the cupcakes were dog friendly and not going to upset Steel’s tummy was pretty important so she used a lot of ingredients that she already knew wouldn’t bother his tummy.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1 whole banana (we freeze bananas so she just thawed out one that was frozen)
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/3 cup local organic honey
  • 1 brown egg
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 cup natural peanut butter

She started out by mixing all the wet ingredients together first and then added in the baking soda and finally slowly added in the flour a little at a time.

One of the little human’s borrowed her six cupcake pan for sorting toys so she had to use the big one.  To make sure the cupcakes didn’t stick to the cupcake liners she sprayed the cupcake liners with coconut cooking spray before putting the batter in the cupcake liners.

When Mommy cooks we know its usually for us, so we made sure to stay in the kitchen under her feet the whole time.

Then Mommy baked them on 350* for 20 minutes or until a tooth pick comes out clean.

After the cupcakes cooled, Mommy iced them with peanut butter and placed a dehydrated banana chip on top!!

birthday-cupcakes-8

Since Steel is the birthday boy he got the first cupcake!!

Mommy took lots of cute pictures of Steel with his cupcake so make sure to watch for some outtakes of him on Instagram over the next few weeks!!

Looking for an Alternative to Raw Feeding for your Pups??

This post is sponsored by Chewy.com.  Read our disclosure here.

Are you looking for an alternative to raw feeding for your pups??  We know raw feeding would be much better for the dogs, but we just aren’t completely sure about it yet.  So we try to make sure we feed our dogs some of the best quality kibble food we can find.  Recently we learned about meal mixers from Stella & Chewy’s and I knew it was something I wanted to try out.

chewy-sponsor-2

With all of the tummy and skin issues Steel has I knew meal mixers was something I wanted to try out for Steel.  Since we feed our dogs a duck based kibble food, I decided to go with the duck, duck goose recipe.  It also includes nutrient rich super foods such as blueberries, strawberries and bananas.

It also smells really good.  So much so that Steel was trying to eat it before I had even opened it.

chewy-sponsor-4

Steel is a large dog weighing about 65 lbs, so the instructions state he should get 2+ scoops per day.  We feed our dogs twice a day so I give Steel one scoop in the morning and one scoop in the evening with his kibble food.

After I put in on his food I like to mix it up.  But Steel loves it so much that he picks out the meat from the meal mixer and eats it before he eats his kibble food!!

chewy-4

As soon as it arrived Steel could hardly wait to try it out.  He said it smells DELICIOUS!!!

chewy-3

I mean just look at it.  You can see the carrots right there in it.  Made with turkey, chicken, sweet potatoes, carrots, green beans, apples, peas, potatoes and cranberries makes it the prefect meal to enjoy while our humans feast on their turkey dinner.  Even our humans said it smells yummy!!

chewy-6

When we opened the can everyone sat and could smell how yummy it is!!  We all wanted it immediately, but we knew if we jumped then Daddy would make us wait.  So we behaved and waited on Mommy to fix our bowls.

chewy-5

We have some pretty weak tummies at our house so Mommy mixed it with our regular kibble food.  Tank got a little more of it than the rest of us because he has a tummy made of steel.

chewy-7

Nugget said it was DELICIOUS!!!  And he GOBBLED it right up!!  So much so that he was licking his plate.  Mommy said that is bad manners and we shouldn’t lick the plates, but this was something that we didn’t want to miss a single drop of.

Peanut Butter Snacks

Recently we shared a picture of some peanut butter star snacks Momma made for us.  They were super yummy and we gobbled them all up pretty quickly.  Momma actually made us a second batch with a slightly different recipe and those were yummy too.  We LOVE peanut butter!!

peanut-butter-snacks

Momma really loves them because they have coconut oil in them and well its good for Steel’s skin condition.  He is really a big baby!!  But we will talk about that another day.  She has been looking for different things to help with his skin and coconut oil was on the top of her list.  I mean coconut oil is awesome for lots of stuff so of course it would be awesome for his skin.  She said its actually looking better!!!

While we would love to take credit for the recipes Momma has use for making us treats we just can’t so instead of writing a recipe we are just going to share a link with you from where she found the recipe.

So the first recipe she made us was from Golden Barrel.  She followed the recipe except most of her molds are in storage right now so the only one she had on hand was the star mold.

The next recipe was basically the exact same except she added banana to it.  She was going to add a whole banana but our littlest human came up and wanted some so she gave him the last little bit of it.  But they were still yummy!!

We really enjoy eating them out of our toy bone!!
